In 1997, James S. Atkins, M. D. founded the Florida Ear and Balance Center because he recognized a need for specialized evaluation and treatment for those who suffer from problems of hearing, balance, dizziness, and diseases of the inner ear. Dr. Atkins is Central Florida's first board-certified neurotologist, one of only 240 nationwide. A dedicated staff assists Dr. Atkins in providing a truly specialized experience.Dr. Atkins explains, "For other ear nose and throat doctors, patients with inner ear disorders such as dizziness and imbalance make up a small percentage of those they see. Audiology services are used for testing and management of dizziness, imbalance, and hearing loss including fitting of conventional and surgically implanted hearing aids, and other ear diseases.The center's physical therapy services test and treat complaints of dizziness, imbalance, and falls.
